Tamotsu Ito is a first class registered architect in Japan. He holds the Master of Architecture from Harvard University Graduate School of Design since 2016, and the Bachelor of Engineering with high honors from the Department of Architecture at the University of Tokyo since 2008. He has worked for several architect offices and led multiple built projects/competitions in Tokyo for 6 years before studying at GSD, and has completed his individual projects both in Japan and in the US.
His completed projects range from furniture design to public architecture, some of which have been featured in several architectural books and web articles. As part of his studies at Harvard GSD, he completed transformable furniture and held its construction workshop for a suburban community in Long Island, NY, and also design-built a teahouse installation in Cambridge MA, using locally available materials.
His interests have been the relationship of the local and the global in designing built environment, as well as the integration of pragmatic and academic ways of design thinking which crossover the scale from urbanism to details.
