House for an Artist

Design 2015
Construction in Progress

A small apartment renovation for the wife of a famous contemporary ink artist and master calligrapher who is also a collector of Middle and Far East Asian Art. The client’s wishes were to combine Islamic patterning and ornament while preserving modern lines throughout the residence. The design intent was to form a synthesis by abstracting Islamic geometric principles into new contemporary patterns to be used as screen partitions for physical separation yet visual connection and thus promoting layered spaces of tranquility and serenity to counter the bustle of urban life in central Beijing.
